Aikido is life

O Sensei said Aikido is life. I'm gradually understanding the deeper meaning of that phrase.

When there is confrontation one asserts his rightfulness or point across where another opinion differs there would be cause for debate. Is there anything such as right or wrong given different circumstances and contexts. Why are there differences in opinions, doctrines, theories and beliefs?
It is an open ended question where by answering it would defeat its openess or unbiasness. It is most suited to be followed by a similar question along the lines of ..."How long is a piece of string?..."

Sensei Koussoulis said in class ..." Go for the connection,... feel the technique ... go with the flow be it push or pull, right or left, top or bottom ... " We can't feel if we don't connect or break the grip at times ...

The timing of the techniques have got to be simultaneous. Always in kamae, strong in posture, the arms do very little, it's always the body, the hips, the stance, the centre line, stable balance and centre of gravity ....

To be in control of myself. To be in control of my breathing regardless of how painful and taxing the exercise or loss of breath has become. To ride the heavy breathing, to rise above the pain and take control of my body through my breathing. It is as if i'm watching myself train hard as i detach from my physical self, suffering and limitations.

Soke Shioda did say that through the diligent practise of the kihon dosa/basics one could experience the dimension of "ki". In moving the entire body in unison with the kamae in every technique one can experience "kokyu" power. Being one with the technique in wholeness. Both shite and uke working harmoniously completes the circle of Aikido.

There is no need to fight or resist. Only to blend and harmonise each other's ki/energy in unison to produce the incredible phenomenon of "kokyu" power. Find the energy and redirect it. Find the hatred or aggression or frustration and redirect it into something positive and joyful.

Be sincere and pure in heart. Be earnest and passionate in training and give it your all at all times. The experience and the journey is all too endless and infinitely rewarding.
